Perfectly Placed

Lots of movies have good songs. Lots of movies have good soundtracks (like every song in the totally lame Twlight movies that I love, or in 500 Days of summer). But every now and then, a song in a movie is so much more than just a song. Something about the tune, the instruments, the words, or whatever convey and express every single meaning that you are supposed to be feeling at that point in the film.

Here are some that have stuck out to me - I am sure there are many more - but these few have been on my mind lately....

You know at the end of Fight Club when "Where is My Mind" by the Pixies plays. That is the most perfectly placed song in any movie- ever. At that point, you're so shocked or whatever and then this wonderful and eerie guitar starts going and then the lyrics! Ah. Ah! AH!

The second most perfectly placed song in a movie is in Marie Antionette. It's a The Strokes song "What Ever Happened". She's pining after her lover and running down a hall (albeit very slowly running with little dainty steps because of her tight dress and teeny shoes) and thinking about him. It's exquisite. The song somehow makes you understand her and all of her agnst.
"The Time of My Life" in Dirty Dancing is not only the theme song but also, the timing is perfect! It sums up the entire movie and just as it plays, you totally feel their love for each other and her pride in her accomplishments that he helped her achieve.

Moon River. Enough said.
